The Slow Burn: About The Slow Burn

The Slow Burn - TSB

THE SLOW BURN is melodic rock with an edge, for a generation raised on great songwriting and punk attitude, spanning the chasms from John Lennon to Kurt Cobain, Bob Marley to Aimee Mann, Joe Strummer to Jeff Tweedy.

THE SLOW BURN is a DC-area rock band that steeps a rich blend of melodic rock in a variety of other influences to yield a unique bounty of sonic bliss. Ted Donat and Paul D'Andrea provide the dual guitar attack, while Dale Juarbe (drums) and Joe Loftus (bass) drive the rhythm that stokes the fire.

THE SLOW BURN had its genesis in early 2000 in the postage-stamp-sized back room of Ted’s Alexandria, VA home. Ted had recently relocated from New York City, where his band Strange Bedfellows had lit up the scene for 10 years at such notable venues as CBGB, Le Bar Bat and The Bitter End.

Ted and Paul quickly recognized a mutual affinity for melding classic rock and roll with more modern textures. THE SLOW BURN played out as a twosome until 2004, when bassist Dennis Feeney and drummer Dale Juarbe were invited to round out the ensemble.

In February of 2007, Dennis decided to strike out on his own with the blessing of the other members of the band. The Slow Burn soon found a replacement in Joe Loftus, a DC-area native and a fine musician in his own right, to hold down the bottom end.

THE SLOW BURN released their debut album, "Let's Do It!" in early 2007. "Let's Do It!" has already received strong notices, including a 9 out of 10 from MusicReviewer.com. Two songs have been featured on XM Radio on Channel 43 - XMU - on The Radar Report, a show featuring up and coming artists.

THE SLOW BURN has graced the stages of some legendary DC area clubs, including the Grog & Tankard in DC and IOTA in Arlington.

Ted Donat - rhythm guitar, vocals

Ted grew up in and around New York City, and his style reflects a rich variety of influences as diverse as the City itself. Strains of rock, pop, reggae, ska, folk, post-punk, jazz and alt-country suffuse his unique writing and singing style. When the boys are cookin', Teddy D. pulls out his baby blue American-made Fender Stratocaster with Fender Lace pickups, plugs it into his Fender Deluxe amp (do you see a pattern here?) with his "Analog Man"-modified Ibanez Tube Screamer pedal, cranks it up and serves up a hearty helping of "Back Bacon"! Ted draws inspiration from his sainted wife Avril and wonderful kids Madeleine and Lucas.

Paul D'Andrea - lead guitar, vocals

Whether it's rock 'n' roll, classical, bluegrass, jazz, or Mongolian throat singing, Paul loves a great song. He plays a Fender Stratocaster, inspired by all the standard classic rock heroes - Hendrix, Santana, Page, etc. He lives in Maryland - across the river from his native Virginia - with his two sweethearts, wife Susanna and daughter Chiara.

Joe Loftus - bass, vocals

Joe Loftus, a Washington area native, has been playing bass guitar and other various instruments for a number of years. In the '80's Joe played way too many eighth notes with various wave bands. In the '90's Joe played with a schizo meta-physical group called Joe Loftus & Sacred Ground, playing the alternative everything circuit with just the right dash of melodrama. In the '00's Joe has returned to the DC music scene from utter obscurity to lay down some funk for The Slow Burn.

Dale Juarbe - drums, percussion

Dale's 15 years of drumming are the driving force behind The Slow Burn. His battery combines Jackson Custom Maple drums and Sabian cymbals with influences from the usual culprits - Peart, Bonham, Paice, Kirke, Mullin, Rudd, and others. A Philly native, Dale currently lives in Woodbridge, VA with his wife, Lucia, and their children, Heather and Michael.
